hierarchy
Hierarchy is important among the three towns. However, not all the hierarchies of each town are the same - for example, because Vale is the strongest town, it has a Matriarch and/or Patriarch instead of just a Chieftain. Below you can find all the information you need about the ranks.
UPPERclass.
Patriarch; Male leader of Vale - only Vale has a Patriarch. A Patriarch rules his city and has a higher position than a Chieftain, therefore giving him some rights to the other cities. Patriarchs are in charge of everything related to his city. A Matriarch and a Patriarch can be a mated pair; however, in some cases, a Matriarch and Patriarch only work together to make their jobs easier.
Matriarch; Female leader of Vale - only Vale has a Matriarch. A Matriarch is in charge of her city but has the same power as a Chieftain (unless she is the only ruler). Matriarchs (if ruling beside a Patriarch) are only in charge of government, trade, and a few other things related to her city. Can be mates with the Patriarch.
Chieftain; A Chieftain is a leader of his/her town. Only Aenea and Ordain have a Chieftain. Chieftains are usually not from the town they lead; they are picked from Vale by the Matriarch or Patriarch to watch over a town. Every season a Chieftain reports to the Matriarch or Patriarch to tell them what has been going on in the pack they have been chosen to lead over. Although they are powerful, they are not in charge of town-related business (like trade, etc).
Shaman; A shaman is the healer of the town. They are also an adviser for the Chieftain; unlike the Chieftain, they are often trained from their birth-town to heal. Shamans oftentimes only tend to those in the Upper Class - however, in some cases they may heal those in the middle class (it is banned to help those in the lower class).
Parliament; The Parliament is made up of about four to twelve wolves from the Upper Class. Only Aenea and Ordain have a Parliament. The Parliament is in charge of town-related business while the Chieftain is not. They act as judges, deciding cases like den moving, crimes, etc. Rarely is a wolf from the middle class picked for this position. must ask for permission before creating a parliament wolf.
Slayers; Specific title given to specific slayer. A slayer is a wolf who has slayed a dangerous beast. For example, if a wolf - let's say his name is Bobbin - slays a powerful creature in the dangerous class and has proven it to the Parliament by either bringing the head of the beast or bringing a vial of the beasts' blood and having at least one honest witness, he will therefore be known as Bobbin the Dragonslayer. Slayers are well-respected among a town, and upon slaying a beast, they are instantly bumped up to the Upper Class. Only Upper or middle class wolves can become slayers. must ask for permission before creating a slayer.
Nobles; Nobles are wolves with a rich amount of gold or that are related to another Upper Class wolf. They are often loathed by lower class wolves due to their amount of money and power. And they have a right to - many Nobles are very smug. must ask for permission before creating a noble.
Bearers; Bearers are message-carriers. They are picked from the Upper Class or middle class. Bearers are speedy, agile wolves who can run great distances at great speeds. Although at the lowest position in the Upper Class, bearers are well-respected because of their braveness. must ask for permission before creating a bearer.
MIDDLEclass.
Paladins; Paladins are wolves who are hired to fight and hunt for their town. A wolf is paid to be a paladin; therefore, most males become paladins. Very rarely is a female a paladin; females are usually in charge of den-keeping and are not often picked by the parliament (who give the jobs) because most females are not strong enough. Paladins will fight when called upon; they also hunt for the ancients and minors in the Nursing Den and the Shaman and Chieftain in the Upper Class.
Peasants; A peasant is an average wolf. They live a normal life in their town, working for gold and to keep their families upright. Sometimes, when necessary, male peasants that are peasants and at least the age of two are called upon to fight for their town.
Ancient; Ancients are wolves above ten years of age who are too old and too weak to participate in town business. Most wolves, however, die before they become ten years of age. Ancients can be chosen to live in the Nursing Den with the minors; there, they will be taken care of by other wolves.
Minors; Minors are females who are pregnant or have pups and they are also the pups themselves. Minors are relieved from all duties once they have reached this rank; while pregnant, a female can live in the Nursing Den to be cared for by others until she gives birth. One month after giving birth to her litter, a female must return back to her own home and support herself. After a minor leaves the Nursing Den, they switch back to their original rank.
LOWERclass.
Merchants; Merchants are traders. Some merchants remain in their town, selling things in categories, while others come and go as they please. Merchants are only considered lower class because they are given permission to leave their town whenever they want to spread their trade. However, merchants that focus on staying in a town are sometimes considered middle class. must ask for permission before creating a merchant.
Tramps; Tramps, also known as beggars or homeless, are wolves who have not been able to make enough money to support themselves. When unable to pay their taxes in gold, they are kicked out of their home until they are capable of keeping enough gold.
Workers; Workers are slaves. Wolves who have been captured in battles, committed crimes, or are found breaking the laws may be taken to be a worker. Some wolves only have a temporary position as a worker depending on their rank. Workers are most often set to mining gold to use as money; some workers also hunt, clean, etc. it is not required to ask for permission for this rank, but please have a back-story as to why your wolf is a worker.
must ask for permission to create a loner of any kind.
Strays; Strays are wolves who were born without a pack. They are considered enemies to the packs.
Outcasts; Outcasts are wolves who have left or been exiled from their pack. They are considered enemies even by their old pack and are greatly frowned upon for their lack of loyalty.
Bandits; Bandits are outcasts or strays - however, they will mercilessly attack others for their goods. Bandits often travel in groups instead of in solitude. They are considered enemies and it is against the law to spare their lives when stumbled upon.
